Zackary John Update

We left early this morning for Zack's surgery on his ears. We had to be at Children's National Hospital in D.C. by 7:25 am. Surgery was to begin at 9:25, however they were running late and it was more like 10:15 am.
Zackary was pretty nervous and worried it would hurt. He was anxious about where we would be. As it turned out we got to stay with him until he was asleep. He liked that!
Being a childrens hospital, there were so good with him. Every staff, Dr., and nurse we came into contact with were very friendly and helpful. Here are a few pictures of our day.

He received a little activity book to occupy his time while waiting.

Showing off his name bracelet

His own rocking chair and TV!!!

Complaining about having to change into a hospital gown and wear weird socks.

At this point he was trying to convince us his ears were fine and that he could hear EVERYTHING!

This he enjoyed. He got to decorate his own breathing mask and "paint" the inside of it with bubble gum scented essential oil. :)

Sleeping on the way home.

"Glad to be home on my own couch! "

Dr. Rielly said everything went very well. He was amazed at the amount of fluid drained from behind each of Zack's ear drums. Each ear had 4cc (that is almost a tsp!) of thick mucus like fluid!!!

We have already noticed that he is hearing better. Shortly after being home he came to me asking in a disgruntled way, "What is that noise?" I said "What noise Zack, I don't hear anything." He said, it is comming from down there, he was pointing down the hall. It as a fan! A fairly strong fan, and it is pretty loud, but it has been running all summer! He's never heard it!!! It was bothering him so much that he eventually asked me to turn it off.

We are all interested to see how his speech improves, and to see if he speaks softer.
